Getting alterations done on high end designer clothes?
Ok. I live in PA, & the most effective way to get designer clothing is to order online. *Sigh* I recently got a shirt that I loooove but it needs slightly altered (when I checked for a smaller size, it was sold out). What would you suggest to look for when finding someone to do alterations? I'm not sure I'd be trusting of the basic dry cleaner down the road that barely speaks english haha. Thanks!
I'm only skeptical about the dry cleaners because I've taken items before, including my prom dress, that were completely sloppy or messed up. Bad experiences.

The dry cleaner who doesn't speak english might be one of the finest tailors in the city, but that's not the point. Look for tailor shops or custom dressmaker's shops, many do alterations. If you don't have any professional ...(Answered by Linda S) |

I don't know the style of dress, so I'm just going to toss out a few suggestions based a a few jobs I've done. It''s actually a very common alteration. Many of the dresses will have wide seam allowances in the tummy area.
If your dress has princess seaming, then there should be enough in the side seams to add about two inches, if all the seams, front and back; are let out. In addition the dressmaker can also add "godets" into the seams. A godet is a triangular shaped piece of fabric that is inserted between ...(Answered by Linda S) |

That will cost a lot, probably around $50-60. My sister got her's done, and when she couldn't pay for it, my mom wasn't so happy...She had a blue dress that needed a hemming at the bottom, and it cost like $39 ...(Answered by .....) |
